Heat pump sensors
Sensors feed temperature — and in some systems pressure — information to the control system, so heating, cooling and defrost can be managed. A wrong sensor, or a right sensor in the wrong location, can look like a control fault.

Typical use
Sensors measure temperature and, in some systems, pressure, and feed that information to the control system so heating, cooling and defrost can be managed.
Common symptoms and failure signs
- Inaccurate temperature readings or a system that never reaches its target
- Intermittent faults or error codes linked to a sensor circuit
- A system that will not start, or will not defrost as expected
- Repeated faults after a sensor has already been replaced — check wiring and connectors before reordering
A symptom alone does not prove this category is at fault. Check wiring, connectors, power and the system documentation first, and do not order by symptom alone.
Specification checklist — what to confirm before ordering
| Field | Why it matters | Where to find it |
|---|---|---|
| System brand and model | Identifies the sensor family and location | Outdoor/indoor nameplate |
| Sensor function and location | Different locations are not interchangeable | Service documentation, existing part |
| Operating range | A sensor outside its range reads wrong even if it fits | Existing part, system documentation |
| Connector and cable | Same function, different connector is still a wrong part | Existing part, photo if safe |
Common mistakes
- Ordering by appearance or cable colour alone.
- Assuming all sensors for one brand are the same.
- Replacing the sensor without checking wiring, connectors and power first.
Must bring with your inquiry — sensors
- System brand, model and sensor location (not just “a sensor”)
- Operating range and what the sensor measures
- Connector type, cable length and mounting
- What has already been checked: wiring, connectors, power, system documentation
- Quantity range and delivery region
Common mismatch cases (generic, not a diagnosis for your system)
- Same connector, different range: the part fits, but readings are wrong and the system never reaches its target.
- Right function, wrong location: a sensor moved to another location can look like a control fault.
- Sensor replaced, wiring not checked: a repeated fault after replacement often points back to wiring or connectors, not a second bad sensor.
